چکیده

The immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) influence physical and mental state of the patients. Additionally, they affect greatly work productivity, not only by eliminating patients in productive age from the working population, but also influencing every-day work performance. The productivity loss, which is significant from the individual’s perspective, can also be measured globally as a loss of benefit for the whole society. It could be expected that loss of productivity rises with severity of patient’s condition. In case of autoimmune inflammatory diseases, it could be related to the severity of the inflammation episode. That is why it is important to control the intensity of episodes to minimize the productivity loss. The analysis of total indirect cost of a disease should be an important factor taken into consideration by health care policy makers. The aim of this presentation was to demonstrate the total indirect costs of RA, CD and Ps in an employed population in Poland and to show how differently indirect costs (namely costs of absenteeism and presenteeism) can be generated by each disease.

Cost per responder associated with biologic therapies for Crohn's disease, psoriasis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

INTRODUCTION Biologic therapies have demonstrated efficacy and safety in several chronic systemic disorders. The authors indirectly compared response rates and costs per responder associated with biologic treatments for moderate-to-severe Crohn's disease (CD), psoriasis (Ps), and/or rheumatoid arthritis (RA). METHODS A systematic literature search was performed to identify phase 3 randomized ...

Work Productivity and Costs Related to Patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Psoriasis

Objectives: To determine and compare the impact of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis (AS), and psoriasis on work productivity, to calculate the productivity costs (PC), and to map out factors that influence (functional status and disease activity) work productivity. Methods: The Work Productivity and Activity Impairment questionnaire was used to evaluate productivity losses of p...

Adalimumab: long-term safety in 23 458 patients from global clinical trials in rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, psoriasis and Crohn's disease

BACKGROUND As long-term treatment with antitumour necrosis factor (TNF) drugs becomes accepted practice, the risk assessment requires an understanding of anti-TNF long-term safety. Registry safety data in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are available, but these patients may not be monitored as closely as patients in a clinical trial. Cross-indication safety reviews of available anti-TNF agents are li...

Health-Related Quality of Life Impairment and Indirect Cost of Crohn’s Disease: A Self-Report Study in Poland

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Evidence on indirect cost of Crohn's disease (CD) is available but typically provides information on the loss of productivity at paid work of patients. In the present study, the quality of life and indirect costs of CD patients were assessed (overall and by disease severity). METHODS A self-report questionnaire-based study among adult Polish patients with CD was performed....

Bone mineral density loss in postmenopausal onset rheumatoid arthritis is not greater than premenopausal onset disease

Abstract   Background: Postmenopausal onset rheumatoid arthritis (post-RA) is expected to have greater bone mineral density (BMD) loss than premenopauasal onset (pre-RA) due to estrogen deficiency and aging. This study aimed to compare the BMD status of the two RA groups with age-matched non-RA controls.   Methods: The patients with RA on follow-up examination were stratified according to age...
